Meteor Plaza

In 1992, a small meteor fell on a rural port town in a corner of the San’in district. The township decided planned to build a complex comprising a museum to exhibit this meteor as its core, a ferry terminal, a thalassotherapy healthcare center, and a community hall. Following a design competition, I was nominated as the architect. Perhaps because the initial syntax possessed such a coarse strength, it is surprising and rare that the realized facility adheres so closely to the competition proposal, with very few deviations. I developed the required and desired planning and form for each facility, then dared to forcibly combine them without mutual adjustments, into an ingenuous composition that was preserved unchanged. This is the result of a method of illicit union induced by the coarse syntax of the program.
