The ferry terminal is a hub for ferry routes connecting the prefectural capital with the remote islands scattered in the nearby waters. It is located at the bottom of a bowl-shaped terrain surrounding the bay, visible from anywhere in the city. The primitive shape of the 100-meter-long horizontally-oriented oval cylinder with an inverse cone penetrating it resulted from the surrounding city view.
