The architecture was designed for a renowned temple in Kyoto to accommodate visitors. Over hundreds of years, the temple has continued to expand and established a rigorous temple layout, leaving no room for a new intervention. Thus, almost automatically, we settled on an underground structure. The architecture, its presence indicated only by the skylight embedded in the ground, came to set a precedent for achieving the fusion of historic and contemporary architecture.
